Why Should You Consider a Greenland Paddle Made by NorthPoint Paddles? Part 2

Greenland Paddles by NorthPoint PaddlesSURPRISINGLY LIGHTWEIGHT
Often times when our customers pick up one of our paddles, they can be heard saying, “Wow, it’s so light!” And then comes the question, “Is it hollow?” And the answer is…“No.” Despite our using solid laminations through and through, our paddles are surprisingly lightweight. We make every effort to buy the lightest Western Red Cedar and hardwoods, without compromising the strength of the paddle. Our choosing to use Western Red Cedar as the predominant wood for our paddles is due to its strength ratio to weight. The end result...an average paddle weight of 26-34 ozs, depending on the combination of wood used.

CONSTRUCTED FOR STRENGTH
Wood is wood, and any paddle can break (that’s why it is always a good idea to carry a spare paddle!) - but when a paddle is laminated it does help make the paddle stronger. It is the same concept that is behind the making of glu-lam beams (can you tell I’m in construction?). Every NorthPoint Paddle starts with at least 5 laminated layers running the full length of the paddle, through the loom section – and then additional laminated layers are added as per the model design – providing strength with just enough flex.

Are you a more aggressive paddler? Then, our Logan Hybrid is for you! To this model, we have added a thin strip of carbon fiber down the center of the entire length of the paddle – for added strength, without adding weight or jeopardizing the flex of the paddle.

QUALITY MATERIALS
Greenland Paddles by NorthPoint Paddles
It is important to us that every component of your paddle is made of high quality materials – after all, we want to be able to provide our customers with a paddle that is worth owning – one that we, ourselves, would want to own. Take for instance, the Western Red Cedar that we use in every model. Our supplier is very particular about the kiln drying process – making every effort to not overheat or speed the process along too quickly - thereby, helping to prevent the wood from warping.

HARDWOODS CHOSEN FOR STRENGTH AND DURABILITY
Your paddle is worth protecting – after all it can be rough out there sometimes. So, with that in mind, we have designed our paddles to have an "armor" of hardwood to give added protection. Every paddle has hardwood tips, and all, but the Rosario, has hardwood edges. We choose hardwoods that are both strong and durable without adding too much to the overall weight of the paddle. Our hardwoods of choice currently include cherry, ash, and maple.
