Often
times when our customers pick up one of our paddles, they can be heard saying,
“Wow, it’s so light!” And then comes the question, “Is it hollow?” And the
answer is…“No.” Despite our using solid laminations through and through, our
paddles are surprisingly lightweight. We make every effort to buy the lightest
Western Red Cedar and hardwoods, without compromising the strength of the
paddle. Our choosing to use Western Red Cedar as the predominant wood for our
paddles is due to its strength ratio to weight. The end result...an average paddle
weight of 26-34 ozs, depending on the combination of wood used.
CONSTRUCTED FOR STRENGTH
Wood
is wood, and any paddle can break (that’s
why it is always a good idea to carry a spare paddle!) - but when a paddle
is laminated it does help make the paddle stronger. It is the same concept that
is behind the making of glu-lam beams (can you tell I’m in construction?). Every
NorthPoint Paddle starts with at least 5 laminated layers running the full
length of the paddle, through the loom section – and then additional laminated
layers are added as per the model design – providing strength with just enough
flex.
Logan Hybrid |
Are
you a more aggressive paddler? Then, our Logan Hybrid is for you! To
this model, we have added a thin strip of carbon fiber down the center of the entire
length of the paddle – for added strength, without adding weight or
jeopardizing the flex of the paddle.
